Welcome to the City of Mounds View, a third ring suburb just 10 miles north of Minneapolis and St. Paul in Ramsey County and surrounded by Blaine, Arden Hills, New Brighton, Fridley, and Spring Lake Park. We are a population of 13,327 and 5,211 households (Met Council 2017), located at the juncture of Interstate 35W and Mounds View Boulevard. We are known for our large wooded residential lots and life-cycle housing in the highly esteemed Mounds View School District. With over 150 businesses including Medtronic, Sysco, and MultiTech to name a few, we are a medical hub supporting several labs, warehouse/distribution, and manufacturing facilities. For entertainment, we host the famous Mermaid Event and Entertainment Center, a 15 screen movie theater, Community & Event Center run by the YMCA, and several retail businesses, including Venezuelan, Vietnamese, Mexican, and North American restaurants.
Mounds View was named after the mounds or small hills that were present before the mounds were removed during World War II when the area became an important small arms arsenal and thousands of loads of sand and gravel were removed. The mounds were mainly in the northwest corner of the township high enough to be seen from almost anywhere in the township. The Township of Mounds View was created on May 11, 1858, the day Minnesota became a state. In 1958 the Village of Mounds View was incorporated.
